1. Installation & Assembly
Installation
In cases where you choose to have your pod delivered unassembled and in modular pieces (not recommended if possible): Before beginning installation, refer to the Pod Assembly Guide for detailed instructions. Following all recommendations will ensure structural integrity and maintain your warranty. Improper installation can lead to damage and may void your warranty.
Base/Foundation
A proper foundation is critical for the stability and longevity of your pod. We recommend consulting a qualified builder or engineer to ensure the foundation meets our specifications. The base should be:
1. Homogeneous, tight, and level: An uneven base may cause cracking, changes in geometry, and misalignments in doors or windows.
2. Concrete/tarmac and waterproofed: Concrete/tarmac bases with waterproofing will provide the most durable support.
3. Prepared for long-term use: Consider ground conditions and landscape before building your base, as shifting foundations may compromise stability.
Painting & Impregnation
At Home Living Luxury, we handle the initial exterior painting and impregnation of the pod, including doors and windows. This impregnation process is a key factor in preventing warping and extending the pod’s lifespan.
Proper exterior treatment provides significant protection against weather and environmental exposure, helping to preserve the pod’s structural integrity over time.
For ongoing maintenance, we recommend inspecting your pod every six months to assess if re-painting or additional impregnation is required.
2. Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will protect your pod from wear and environmental exposure. Here are some key practices:
1. Wood Characteristics: Wood is a natural material and may develop cracks or slight changes in colour over time. These are natural occurrences and not defects.
2. Ventilation: For pods used infrequently, we recommend installing ventilation to reduce condensation. Proper airflow prevents moisture build-up and protects wood from mould and rot.
3. Furniture & Interior Care: Clean furnishings regularly with warm, soapy water. Regular cleaning is essential to prevent mould and maintain interior quality.
4. Commercial Usage: If your pod will be used commercially, please inform us. We will equip the pod with a smoke alarm, and we can also provide a fixture for a fire extinguisher if needed. It is your responsibility to notify us of this requirement to add these safety measures.
3. Using Your Pod
Heating Appliances
Warning: At Home Living Luxury, we install either wood-burning stoves or electric heaters in our pods (upon your request). While these are safe when used responsibly, it is critical that they are not left on overnight or unattended.
As the pods are primarily wooden structures, safety precautions must be followed.
Always supervise heating appliances, as it is your responsibility and that of your guests to ensure safe usage.
Routine Care
Furniture Cleaning: Clean all interior furnishings regularly with warm, soapy water to prevent mould.
1. Allow Clearance: We recommend maintaining approximately 300mm of space around all four sides of the pod to allow for inspections and maintenance over time.
2. Weather Considerations: Remember that extreme conditions like heavy rain, strong winds, and high humidity can affect the wood’s appearance and structure.
Regularly assess and maintain your pod to ensure it remains in optimal condition.
